About Jen Gonzales

Jen Gonzales is a distinguished higher education leader with two decades of experience in student success, institutional governance, and strategic advocacy. She brings 16 years of progressive leadership at the university to her current role as Interim Vice-Provost, Students.

Jen provides strategic oversight for multifaceted portfolios, including Student Affairs, Student Wellbeing, Athletics, and Recreation in her role. Her leadership is defined by a human-centric, pedagogical approach– informed by her Master of Teaching (OISE/University of Toronto) and BSc in Biomedical Sciences (University of Guelph)– that engages students at the intersections of wellbeing, purposeful self-discovery, future readiness, and academic success.

Most recently, Jen served on the Transforming Futures Academic Plan Advisory Group, where she was instrumental in ensuring that student success and holistic support were embedded as core pillars of the university’s new academic plan.

Jen’s impact extends to the highest levels of university administration. From 2019 to 2021, she served as the staff representative on the Board of Governors. Her influence in the Student Affairs field is recognized internationally through her work with ACPA-College Student Educators International, and she has held numerous board positions within provincial and national associations, notably serving as the first person of color to hold the presidency of the Ontario Association of College and University Housing Officers (OACUHO).

A champion for institutional excellence, Jen has been recognized with the Larissa Allen Employee Experience Staff Award and the Julia Hanigsberg Make Your Mark Staff Award for her ability to drive high-impact results through staff engagement. Her contributions to the field were recently recognized with the 2026 CACUSS Award of Honour, the highest national recognition bestowed by the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services (CACUSS).

As a first-generation university graduate and Latina leader, Jen is deeply committed to dismantling systemic barriers to build an inclusive campus community. She leverages her personal and professional journey to ensure equity-deserving students have the resources and opportunities necessary to flourish at ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ and beyond, as successful alumni, and engaged global citizens.

About the Office of the Vice-Provost, Students

With a focus on responsiveness and empathy, the vice-provost, students oversees the following: Athletics & Recreation; Student Affairs which includes student learning support, career services, housing, student life and community care (student conduct and advocacy, sexual violence support and education); and Student Wellbeing which includes the medical centre, counselling, health promotion, academic accommodations and testing.

Areas of Responsibility

 is responsible for varsity and intramural sports programs, and for the university’s Recreation and Athletics Centre (RAC) and Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC).

Student Affairs is a support network that helps students make a successful transition to university, develop career-related skills, and access support for student conduct issues or if they have been impacted by sexual violence.

Student Wellbeing helps students with access to programs and services that support their personal and academic wellbeing including access to academic accommodations and accommodated testing.
