STEP Canada Family Business Award
In 2025, the Family Business Institute was delighted to announce a collaboration with the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Canada to create a STEP Canada Family Business Award for academic excellence in a family business undergraduate course.

Winner of the 2025 STEP Canada Prize in Family Business
Nicholas Fortuna was selected as the 2025winner. Nicholas graduated in June 2026 from the Law & Business program at Ted Rogers School at ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½. He chose this major due to a strong passion for law and its integral role within the business environment. Nicholas was actively involved on campus, helping to found the Family Business Student Association. He also served as Executive Vice President of the Students’ Law Network and participated in the Top 200 program. Nicholas is pictured with Francesco Barbera, Janie Goldstein and Deena Foudeh (far right) who is the current President of the Family Business Student Association. 2024 Award Recipient
Imran Awol

Winner of the 2024-2025 STEP Canada Prize in Family Business
Imran Awol was selected as the inaugural recipient of the STEP Canada Award in 2025. Imran is a Business Management graduate from the Ted Rogers School of Business at ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ who majored in Entrepreneurship. He was selected to participate in the university’s co-op program and has a passion for finance, entrepreneurship… and soccer! He graduated May 2025 and returned to Ethiopia to support his family and contribute to the economic development of his community. He is pictured below with Francesco Barbera and Janie Goldstein from the Family Business Institute.
