Create a new course.
A new course must be accompanied by a Category 2 (opens in new window) Minor Modification adding it to a core curriculum or a Liberal Studies table.
1. Fill out a form.
This is a critical step. This lets Undergraduate Publications make sure that the desired course code is available.
A new degree-level course must be
- part of the core curriculum of at least one degree program,
- or, if intended for a general audience, developed as a Liberal Studies course.
If adding the course to a Liberal Studies table ...
- Before proposing a Liberal Studies course, consult the .
- Choose only the range 100–499 (or 10–49 for A/B courses) for Lower Level Liberal Studies courses.
- Choose only the range 500–999 (or 50–99 for A/B courses) for Upper Level Liberal Studies courses.
2. Fill out .
- The form will assist in determining the category (level) of the curriculum change.
- If the change is determined to be a Category 2 minor modification, please submit via the Calendar Change Hub.
- If the change is determined to be a Category 3 minor modification or a major modification, you will receive a template document for a proposal. The template will be tailored to your specific modification. It will not include any redundancies and unnecessary sections for your specific request.
- After your proposal has been submitted to OVPA by May 31, please submit all curricular changes via the Calendar Change Hub.
3. Go to the .
- On the first page, choose "Course-Level Change" and enter the course code.
- Then, choose "New Course."
- Specify the details of the course as prompted (e.g., title, course description, GPA weight, billing hours).
- This provides us with the essential information needed to create the course in the Student Administration System.
- Carefully consider requisites or exclusions, and use them judiciously to ensure that appropriately prepared students can enrol in the course.
If adding the course to a Liberal Studies table ...
- In the field "Is this a Liberal Studies course?", choose whether the course will be a Lower Level (Table A) or Upper Level (Table B) Liberal Studies course.
3. Now that the course is created, add it to a curriculum.
- You will be prompted to continue on to the Curriculum-Level Change section.
