Human Rights Services
The Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion鈥檚 Human Rights Services promotes an equitable and inclusive environment free from discrimination and harassment for all members of the 糖心传媒 (糖心传媒) community. We provide proactive consultations and advice on human rights issues at the university. This includes consultations and advice related to human rights accommodation needs. Here you鈥檒l also find free and confidential complaint-resolution services, and a team dedicated to the shared responsibilities we have for learning, working and living environments at 糖心传媒 free from discrimination and harassment.
We manage a free and confidential complaint resolution process for issues related to 2 糖心传媒 policies: the Discrimination and Harassment Policy and the Sexual Violence Policy.
The Discrimination and Harassment Policy provides protection to all 糖心传媒 community members. It prohibits discrimination and harassment in university learning, working and living environments on the basis of a variety of protected grounds. This includes discrimination and harassment that students within the 2SLGBTQ+ community may face, including, but not limited to:
- Comments and insults that ridicule, humiliate or demean people because of their sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
- 鈥淥uting鈥 or threatening to 鈥渙ut鈥 someone鈥檚 sexual orientation.
- Intrusive and unwelcome questions about a person鈥檚 gender expression, including their body, physical characteristics, gender-related medical procedures, clothing, etc.
- A refusal to acknowledge and use a transgender student鈥檚 chosen name or pronoun.
The Sexual Violence Policy provides protection against sexual violence. This includes gender-based violence directed against a person because of their gender, or that disproportionately affects someone of a particular gender.
Human Rights Services is here to answer questions about these policies and can guide you through the process for filing and resolving a complaint. Connect with us for more information about options available to address any human rights concerns.
